Idle thoughts

This is just too much. I promise there can't be much more than five pages in the *entire* Star newspaper today that doesn't have the word "SARS" on it at least ONCE. And those five pages are probably mostly comics. In fact, there was a 16-page special pullout on it. Sometimes I wonder whether the paranoia surrounding SARS is fuelled by the media attention or justified by it. A difficult line to draw, that.

I've watched two amazing (but very different) movies over the weekend - "The Pianist" and "Snatch". I seriously recommend the former for anyone who has never quite come to grips with the realities of Jewish oppression under Hitler (which is, well...everyone who hasn't watched "The Pianist"..so watch "The Pianist"!). And I seriously recommend "Snatch" for...well, anyone who hasn't watched it. So, er, watch "Snatch" too.

I think I may watch "Schindler's list" tonight, too. I'm trying to cram in as much idle time as I can now, before we have to go back to school on Tuesday...

I have to go for dinner, but that just reminds me of something I was talking about with a friend yesterday (yesterday? I think it was yesterday). It seems to be a very Asian thing to have dinner with your family...I don't know if that's some kind of hideous generalization, and if it is please shoot me, but I've just noticed that culturally, "Western" families rarely sit down for dinner together - or if they do, it's considered some kind of novelty, e.g. Christmas, or something. I was just wondering if people think this is a bad or good thing. Feel free to leave a comment or ten.
