Individualism
For a lack of things to do (having just churned out yet another timed history essay), I took the Princeton Review Career Quiz (link thanks to Ken - have a go at it if you're really bored, like I was), and here are the results:
Your interest colour is: BLUE
People with blue Interests like job responsibilities and occupations that involve creative, humanistic, thoughtful, and quiet types of activities. Blue Interests include abstracting, theorizing, designing, writing, reflecting, and originating, which often lead to work in editing, teaching, composing, inventing, mediating, clergy, and writing.
Your usual style is: RED
People with red styles prefer to perform their job responsibilities in a manner that is action-oriented and practical. They prefer to work where things happen quickly and results are seen immediately. People with red styles tend to be straightforward, assertive, logical, personable, authoritative, friendly, direct, and resourceful, and usually thrive in a self-structured, high-pressured, hierarchical, production-oriented, competitive environment. You will want to choose a work environment or career path in which your style is welcomed and produces results.
In general I do have an inexplicable sense of resentment for these "quiz" things, which have something of a tendency to over-compartmentalize people. Maybe it's just my overdeveloped sense of individualism that makes the notion - that every single individual human being can be categorized into so few categories - rather repulsive.
Although having said that, I must admit that the above results are pretty close to home. I guess we aren't as unique as we'd all like to think. Thoughts, anyone? Pluralism vs. individualism, what's your take on humanity - are we all basically the same, or are we all amazingly different? And if the latter is in fact true, and we'd LIKE to be perceived as unique individuals, why, WHY the internet-wide proliferation of these goddamned personality quizzes?
Incidentally, I find it quite interesting that my interests are "quiet" and "thoughtful", but my style of work is "action-oriented" and "competitive". I may be schizophrenic.
Also, blue and red are my favourite colours. I find blue most pleasing, but red is the colour I love wearing (and also the colour of my streaks). Coincidence? I Think Not.
