Technology...you can have it
Well, here I am sitting in a cybercafe, mourning the demise of my PC (it either refuses to load Windows, or refuses to turn on at all). After having watched a movie last night about the scope of machinery and programming, the irony is quite suffocating.
Anyway, the Matrix was AWESOME. I don't care that I got at least four hate reviews about it before I even set foot in the cinema (hi James), and that even the newspapers gave it a C rating. Obviously these people do not appreciate the philosophical concepts behind the Matrix. e.g. the very fundamental questions of a) whether we have free will or not, b) what constitutes "real", and what doesn't, and what is the difference, and c) the philosophical implications of technology. Sure, fight scenes were somewhat overdone, but hey, it's Hollywood, and therefore by definition escapist. Don't tell me Armaggeddon, Titanic etc. weren't overdone...and they sold, didn't they? That's what people want from cinema. Anyway, I won't say anymore, because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone.
Except, I must say...that "to be continued" bit at the end really Pissed Me Off.
Oops, did I just spoil something? 0:-)
Anyway, updates may not be forthcoming in the near future, due to abovementioned computer failure, but I'll try and get in a daily update at least. Damn technology.
[07:00PM Update] Jeez. I left the cybercafe for kickboxing, came back (this is almost two hours later) and the same guy is sitting at the same computer next to the one I was at both times. Playing something that seems to consist entirely of a whole bunch of little characters that look exactly the same, hacking at each other with exactly the same strokes at exactly the same time, whose feet don't seem to correspond to gravity when they walk (or else they are wearing uber invisible rollerblades). The same game he was playing just now. The depths some people sink to.
[07:06PM Update] Hah, he's going. He'd been there 8 hours.
[07:09PM Update] Oh, wait, he's not going. His computer just hung. I'm not surprised.
OK OK, I'm outta here.
[07:10PM Update] Ok I just have to add this...haha...it just popped up on the guy's computer...
