Sucker
Eric arrived in the post today!!
...no, I didn't order a boy toy. Eric is a Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett, and it is the FINAL ONE that completes my 27-book collection. I have been searching for it for almost a year and a half now, to no avail, as Malaysian bookstores are notorious for being - to put it quite bluntly - crap. Anyway, the reason it arrived in the post today is because Pete Smith, a darling boy (man...guy...) who lives in Oxford, decided he would answer my prayers and ship it over for a (very, very, very) belated birthday present. Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you. *smooch*
I am a sucker for getting whole sets of things, I must say. It's people like me that appear in the marketing fantasies of sequel producers and trilogy writers. Oh baby, they drool, here is a Sucker. And so they come out with the LOTR DVD set, and the extended DVD set, and then the set that looks exactly the same except that it comes in a BOX with lovely art on it, and alongside the DVD-mania they release the three books in a BOX SET, and put delicious little enticements like "Buy all Three and Get the Fellowship of the Rings Special-Edition- That-Matches-The-Book Soundtrack", knowing full well that I will then have to buy the OTHER two Special-Edition- That-Matches-The-Book Soundtracks, which will cost twice as much as normal, and I'll buy them anyway because I am a Sucker, and all this time the LOTR producers will be having little marketing orgasms in their sleep at the thought of my rampant consumerism.
If they try and sell me a set of Fellowship-of-the-Ring character-shaped pens, I swear there'll be murder.
At this point, I must make it very clear that in no way have I ever, will I ever and do I ever have any inclination to: a) collect Pokemon, and b) collect McDonalds Mashimaro stuffed toys. I am a Sucker, not a blithering idiot.
