Karma Scharma
Out of languid curiosity a few days ago, I leafed idly through a book on Buddhist Karma (while keeping one eye on a fascinating program on Discovery Channel) at a friend's place. It detailed the various forms of "white karmic paths" and "black karmic paths" (positive and negative karma cycles), and how to both avoid the negative cycles and absolve oneself from them. It was quite an interesting read...
...until, to my horror, one of the black karmic paths that appeared on the page was "Idle talk". My first thought was, now surely if idle talking were a sin, then idle thinking would also be a sin - if not more of one! The premise was that idle talking filled up so much time that there would be no time to reflect and discuss deeper and more profound things, and that "idle talk" was "talk of things that are irrelevant". Irrelevant to who, I wanted to ask, since surely relevance is relative, but I thought that would be rather irreverent of me, so I quelled the thought (I am quite proud of that sentence). So even now, I am still unsure as to what constitutes idle talking. Also, talking to oneself is also considered irrelevant, and therefore, negative karma. So you can chalk up another black mark against my name for that, too (yes, I talk to myself occasionally, and I'm not sorry).
Anyway, my point was that idleThinK is a evidently sinkhole of negative karma. Don't come here anymore.
