Sum day

Kids have such a great way of saying things. I devised a star-reward-incentive system for one of my students (you get stars for good work, 10 stars earns a sweet, 100 stars earns a present. Also known as judicious bribery), and so I drew out a star chart to keep a record of her stars. Being uncontrollably artistically-inclined, I felt compelled to decorate:

When she deigned to look up from her sums, she exclaimed: "Teacher, you write like a shop!" I was extremely amused.

Speaking of sums, anyway, I realized today that I'm turning into exactly the kind of teacher I professed to hate, back in my ancient primary school days. I set pages and pages of sums in the firm conviction that one will learn by repetition. If my own six-year-old feelings are any measure of any pre-school child, from Daweena's perspective, I must seem like an ogre.

Incidentally, also, I had a very very fantastic night last night :)
