Trendy

Today Jun Linn and I thought it would be beneficial to our popularity if we were to emulate the commendably trendy fraction of the populace who derives social fulfilment from driving down a busy road in a trendy part of town, with their windows rolled down and earshattering rock music blasting out of the hi-fi - but with one crucial difference. We decided that we would play a Mozart Concerto instead. And so, one warm evening, those fortunate enough to be in Bangsar Baru (KL, Malaysia) at the time will espy an unassuming Honda Civic rattling down Telawi Street, with the musical strains of Mozart's most famous concerto announcing our gloriously trendy presence, and two people in the front seats bobbing their heads trendily to the....pulse. And you shall worship our trendiness, because we will be Cool.

Did I mention we'd probably be wearing ski masks?

Anyway, what is the measure of "trendy"? Today I tried to help a friend pick out a "trendy" outfit, and it was a monumentally difficult task. Is there some kind of website we can visit, or someone to consult, over what is "trendy" and what is not? Maybe there is some secret society that makes decisions and administers advice on trendiness, and everyone except me (and probably Jun Linn) consults it on a regular basis. It's a big conspiracy.

I wonder if ski masks are trendy...
