Checking in

Having just climbed a 4200m high mountain, I am in a state of...well, I am generally in quite a state. I am also currently still in the state of Sabah, in an internet cafe. And to state for the record: I was the first up to the summit and the last back to base camp. How's that for a record?

Climbing Mount Kinabalu was like climbing a neverending staircase.

Photos will come soon, when I get them from my sister, who will only be able to give them to me sometime next week. The full account will have to wait until I get home, because my arms are completely dysfunctional and typing is a great strain.

Oh, and incidentally...the view from the summit was literally To Die For. I would climb it again just to sit up there and watch the sun rise from the depths of a proverbial ocean of mist and cloud. I would conceivably have sat up there the entire morning, if not for a) the fact that we had to be back at base camp by 1.30pm, and b) the fact that my fingers were on the verge of frostbite, and I was in all probability tripping down the slippery road to hypothermia. It was Cold, and that capital C is completely well-deserved!

Having said that, I would be extraordinarily happy if I did not ever see another staircase again, for at least two months. That not being possible, I will settle for never seeing another granite rock for at least the next two weeks. Back to civilization tonight, and then off to Singapore tomorrow. Life is hectic.
