Today I drank some coffee
A few weeks ago, in a commendable effort to distract myself from that rare phenomenon called "work", I put this postcard (from London) into a book in the library, and waited for someone to find it.
Today, weeks later, someone found it, and we had coffee and laughs.
If this were Hollywood, there'd be directions on my script, as such:
Him: Hi, um. This is J44 Rootes, yes?
Her: Yep, hi.
Him: So this is your doing? [HOLD UP POSTCARD].
Her: [LAUGH] Oh yes, I'd nearly forgotten about that. I didn't think anyone would actually come looking for me.
Him: It looked like a fit girl's handwriting, and I was curious.
Her: What if it was a barely legible chicken scrawl?
Him: I'd still be curious. Anyway you've sated both curiosities. [SMILE] How would you like some coffee?
[EXEUNT]
[FALL IN LOVE]
[LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER]
Most tragically, this isn't Hollywood, so we conversed over an awkward coffee, discussed my brain, and parted amicable ways. No pristine Cinderella ending. Bummer.
