In memory of Octavian
Distinguished by a mere weight of dictional leaning: August, the month; august, the adjective.
But there is nothing particularly august about this August, and it seems to me that majesty is less aptly earned by particular months, and more so by those particularly savage, beautiful days where the skies blacken in wet fury, and the stormclouds piling against the distance, low, put you in the mind of some august battalion poised for blitzkrieg. August, I'd like to see more of these, please. Preferably from the calmer side of a pane of glass, as how your namesake ruled his demense with such sure, august prudence.
