music to my ears
I must make a lamentably geeky confession: if you should ever encounter me on campus wearing my headphones, seven times out of ten, I am not listening to music but some kind of podcast lecture, audio historical documentary, news analysis or (somewhat more redeemingly) this american life, which EVERYONE MUST LISTEN TO. I am a huge fan of TVO's Big Ideas lectures. I am especially a fan of Jordan Peterson, who delivered one of my favourite lectures of all time on music and psychology, and whose lectures are a little like drifting through a beautiful labyrinthine garden of ideas, all the while being gently tugged upwards, higher and higher until you suddenly glimpse the startlingly perfect shape of the garden in its entirety. I would quote you some bits from it, but that would be like showing you a strand of thread and asking you to appreciate the tapestries. you can subscribe to their podcast here.
meanwhile, I am off to london for chinese new year celebrations, so both idlethink and its fledgling progeny will be dormant for a while.
