Big Fish

I've been told that the father - the main character - is much like me in temperament, but this was after I had already proclaimed it a favourite (perhaps the two are causally related). A lot of people I know dislike Big Fish, finding it "strange", but I found its almost brazenly fantastical quality deeply alluring. Like Moulin Rouge must be accepted as a love-story musical, Big Fish needs to be taken for what it is - fairytale fantasy on screen. Tim Burton's visionary direction, with the broad, luscious scenes and rich textured colours, is an inimitable credit to a delightful story.
